Fuzz & Zippers

At the end of June, my friend's daughter had a baby. A girl. Her third. For the first, I sewed a little girl twirl coat. For the second, I knit a grey sweater with pink polka dot buttons. For the third? What do you get a third girl?

I decided on bunting bags from the very soft cabbage swirl in baby pink and light teal. Along with the other fabrics bought recently, these were 50% off making the price of two meters only $11.00.

Fuzz and zippers do not go well together. I used a cotton quilting fabric to make bias strips for inside the neck and armholes and to bind the zipper edge so it could be opened and closed easily without catching. I can only imagine how it'd go in the middle of the night with a dirty diaper and a stuck zipper. NOT ! ! !

I bought a meter of each and a bunting doesn't take that much so I used some of the remnants to make a 9" x 13" pillow for each of the big sisters. I'm sure they would like a present too.

The remaining remnants are scrunched into a ziplock bag along with the cotton remnants. There's enough to make another small pillow from each color only the scraps needed to be contained because...

... the fabric fluffs like crazy. EVERY surface in the studio needed to be wiped down and vacuumed. There was a path across the floor through the pink and teal sea of fuzzy bits. This morning, I have coffee with my other mother and then I'll deliver the gifts and then it's back to work on the grey jacket. I'm looking forward to finishing it.
