Adorable Times Two

Two Saturdays ago I drove back home and last Saturday I turned around and returned to Calgary since my daughter was going to be induced on Sunday and Grandma was needed to look after grandson one.

I've known for a while that the baby was a boy but I didn't know his name although Daimon - his big brother - did. Whenever I suggested he tell Grandma the name, he'd say "NO" with all the force and enthusiasm a two year old is able to say no with. Hmm....

Keith Daniel was born weighing 7 pounds 13 ounces in the very early hours of Monday morning just missing sharing a birth date with his Uncle Aryck. He is - of course - adorable which makes my grandsons adorable times two.

I feel quite honored to share these first weeks with my daughter and her family. I'm making sure to give them family time just the four of them especially for that first moment when Keith got to meet his big brother. He had a gift for him - a drill and a hammer and other tools - and now Daimon is totally thrilled with this exceptional baby who knew exactly what he wanted although...

... there has been a bit of adjusting to the new reality of having a baby brother. Baby in theory is definitely different than baby in reality. My daughter and son-in-law are doing a great job of giving both boys the attention they need and I am - LOL- totally happy to hold the baby when help is needed.

Today, my son-in-law is at work, Daimon is at day home playing with his friends, my daughter and Keith are home having quiet bonding time, and I'm at Starbucks writing this post and journal writing.

The sun is a beautiful red ball in the sky because of all the smoke in the air that's blowing this way from the fires in Washington. Howard said that at home in Kamloops he can barely see across the road with all the smoke that has settled in the valley. He's flying to Calgary on the 5th for some meet the new grandson snuggly moments and then driving home with me on the 6th.

By then, my help will no longer be needed and the family of four will be functioning quite well on their own. Good thing because I'll definitely need those few days to get it all together before we get possession of our new house the next weekend. This has certainly been a busy year, full of delightful events, and even so I'm looking forward to a quiet fall and winter. YES YES.

Talk soon - Myrna

Grateful - a healthy baby

  2. Congratulations to all! I'm sure your presence is a gift and a blessing.

We had a couple of smoky days here, too. It's rough to live with. But rain is on the way, so keep your fingers crossed.

  3. Congratulations, Grandma! Keith is a gorgeous little boy and lucky to have a big brother to teach all the big brother stuff he'll need to know to get through life. I hope the fires die down and the air clears for all of you folks in the west. Again, Congratulations! Hugs, Charmion

  7. Congratulations, Myrna.
    What a lovely family.
So sorry to hear about the fires. It all sounds very unpleasant, but I hope no worse than that.

  9. Congratulations on another beautiful and healthy grandchild. What a great grandmother you are too - there when needed, but being so thoughtful of giving the new family their own time together. Know they think you're quite a treasure. Think it's too cute that the new baby "brought" a gift for his big brother!! Hope everything continues to go well.

  10. What a cute little baby! I remember my nephew howling "Put her back Mommy!!!!" when his theoretical little sister turned into a real baby in the house. You've been busy, that's for sure. And still more exciting things coming up for you in your new house! All the best!
